International WOMEN’S Day
From being a mother to being an entrepreneur, from equality in board to equal pay, women voices will be heard around the globe #eachforequal#.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2020 is “Each for equal”, recognizing all of the actions we can take as individuals to challenge stereotypes, fight prejudice and celebrate our achievements.
An equal world is an enabled world.
How did it start?
It’s quite difficult to say when exactly IWD began. The history can be traced back to the early 20th century across America & Europe. The fact that women’s day is celebrated on March 8th is strongly linked to the women’s movements during Russian Revolution in 1917. It recalls the women’s strength when the Russian women protested and held a strike for “Bread and peace” in February. And then only the provisional Government granted women the right to vote. It was the key milestone of women’s day worldwide. In 1977 the day was officially recognized by United Nations as Women’s day.
UN theme for IWD is “I am Generation equality: Realizing women’s rights”. It aims to:
- Challenge gender norms
- Empower each other
- Celebrate diversity
- Break stereotypes
- Reject the binary
- Mobilize and
- Take action
It is the time to stop trying to change women, and to start changing systems that prevent them from achieving their potential.
Today, International women’s group (IWG) take this opportunity to congratulate all the women fraternity for being the strong leaders, entrepreneurs, care givers.
Its time to celebrate the all – round women we are!
Our strength, determination and selfless spirits.
Happy International Women’s Day!
